STAGE 1

CAMP CHAVERIM

In late 2015, Camp Chaverim was founded by the Reyus co-directors, Rabbi Ezra Baldinger and Rabbi Yaakov Boruch Beren. Camp Chaverim was started in order to create a model program where children from all over the nation would learn to appreciate the tremendous inner value of their peers.

In the Summer of 2016, Camp Chaverim began with one session of 52 campers. Currently, Camp Chaverim has two sessions with approximately 95 campers each, with campers coming from approximately 20-25 different cities across the U.S. and Canada each year.

STAGE 2

BUILDUP

In 2019, after years of development, Camp Chaverim turned its passion into a systematic approach called Buildup. The key component of this system is the power of the staff to affect change in the social environment by actively and genuinely appreciating the incredible inner value of a child over an extended period of time.

STAGE 3

ALBERTI CENTER STUDY

Buildup generated great interest from The Alberti Center for Bullying Prevention (affiliated with the State University of New York/SUNY), one of the top bullying research centers in the United States. Camp Chaverim agreed to partner with The Alberti Center, having an independent study of its environment conducted over the course of summer 2020.

During the study, data was collected from precamp and postcamp surveys of campers and from over 80 documented Buildups over a 3.5 week period. The results indicated that campers’ self- confidence significantly increased (Cohen’s d = .46), and that campers felt significantly more appreciated by their peers (Cohen’s d = .88). as a result of attending Camp Chaverim.

These results were brought to life by an impressive number of non-solicited testimonials from parents describing the positive real-life changes they have observed as a result of their sons attending Camp Chaverim.
